The Problem with Conventional Gels
Standard washing gels release all active ingredients simultaneously the moment water enters the drum. This creates an immediate competition between components: proteases designed to break down proteins may be neutralised by alkaline builders before they reach the fabric; optical brighteners bind to surfactant micelles instead of cotton fibres; fabric softeners complex with anionic surfactants and lose effectiveness.
The result is a compromise. Formulators compensate by overdosing each component, which drives up cost-per-wash, increases chemical load on wastewater systems, and still fails to deliver optimal performance across all fabric types.
"The fundamental limitation of single-phase gel is not ingredient quality — it is the absence of time. Chemistry needs sequence, and conventional formats cannot provide it."
How the Three-Chamber Capsule Works
RAKUN's capsule is constructed from three concentric polymer shells, each engineered to dissolve at a specific water temperature and pH threshold. This creates a controlled release cascade across the full wash cycle.
Chamber 1 — Pre-Wash Enzymes (0–5 min)
The outermost shell is a thin polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film that dissolves within the first minutes of drum rotation. It releases a blend of proteases, amylases, and lipases into cold water before the main temperature rise. Enzymes work best at low temperatures and in the absence of high-concentration surfactants — conditions that exist only at this early stage.
Chamber 2 — Surfactant Core (5–25 min)
The middle chamber, a thicker PVOH-co-polymer shell, dissolves once the water temperature rises above 30 °C and drum agitation has built up mechanical action. It releases the primary anionic-nonionic surfactant blend, oxygen-based bleach activators, and alkaline builders. By this point enzymes have already loosened the stain matrix, so surfactants can penetrate and lift residues more efficiently with a lower total dosage.
Chamber 3 — Fabric Conditioner & Brighteners (25–40 min)
The innermost polymer capsule contains cationic fabric softeners and optical brighteners. It dissolves in the final stage of the wash — after surfactants have been diluted by rinse water — ensuring no anionic-cationic complexation and maximum deposition onto fabric fibres.
| Chamber | Active Ingredients | Release Trigger | Wash Phase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outer Shell | Protease, Amylase, Lipase | Water contact, cold | Pre-wash (0–5 min) |
| Mid Shell | Surfactants, Builders, OBA | >30 °C + agitation | Main wash (5–25 min) |
| Inner Shell | Cationic softener, brighteners | Dilution + pH drop | Rinse phase (25–40 min) |
Performance Advantages
Independent third-party testing at 30 °C against five leading European gel brands across 12 stain categories yielded consistent results for the RAKUN capsule format:
- 23% better stain removal on protein-based stains (blood, grass, egg) compared to equivalent-dose conventional gel, attributed to unobstructed enzyme activity in the pre-wash phase.
- 18% lower active-ingredient dosage required to achieve equivalent cleaning performance, reducing cost-per-wash by approximately 15% at retail pricing.
- Fabric softness scores 31% higher on standardised cotton test strips, due to elimination of anionic-cationic complexation that neutralises softener in single-phase formats.
- Full dissolution in 100% of test cycles at temperatures between 20 °C and 60 °C, confirming polymer stability within normal domestic machine parameters.
All three RAKUN capsule polymers are fully biodegradable within 28 days under standard OECD 301B conditions. No microplastic residue is generated. The formulation contains zero phosphates, zero chlorine bleach, and is certified safe for septic tank systems — critical for the Georgian and Armenian markets where municipal sewage infrastructure is inconsistent outside major urban centres.
Compatibility and Usage
The capsule is designed for front-loading and top-loading drum machines operating between 20 °C and 60 °C. It should be placed directly in the drum — not the detergent drawer — before loading laundry. One capsule is rated for a standard 4–5 kg load at standard soil level. For heavily soiled loads above 6 kg, two capsules are recommended.
The outer polymer shell is moisture-sensitive. Capsules must be stored in a cool, dry location with the resealable bag closed after each use. Under correct storage conditions, shelf life is 24 months from production date. Do not handle with wet hands.
